A month or so ago I noticed that some paint was buckling on a section of eave in the back of the house. B took care of getting estimates. We chose one company based on the fact that the estimator was more thorough in how he was going to fix the problem. (The problem being that a hail storm in April damaged the roof near the peak and we've had a slow trickle of water running down to the eave.)
They were supposed to come yesterday and never showed up. They came today and didn't knock or anything, they just pulled up and stood in front of the house for awhile and then climbed up there. The guys who are here today have no idea what the problem is- they said they were calling their boss to find out what they were here to fix. but their boss is not the one who was here to give an estimate. So who knows if this is going to get done correctly? I feel enormous anxiety about this.
ETA BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE!
Roof guys say our gutters are full of leaves and needles. The gutter people told me that there was going to be a leaf guard. I call the gutter people. They ask me to send a copy of the contract. I do and when I look at it I see that "leaf guard" is not listed. But TWO DIFFERENT PEOPLE told me there would be leaf guard and showed me the fucking leaf guards.
Gutter guy says he can add leaf guard for approximately $300, which he says is a discount. But then he says that the $300 ones won't stop pine needles, we need a different one that's more expensive. The retail prove on those is $760 but he's going to see if he can cut me a deal and give me the contractor price. Argh. I don't need this extra expense right now! But I also can't be cleaning the gutters every week.
