We've been making strides in organization this month, which I like. Right now my efforts are focusing on the studio, because I need it to be maximally organized in order to be effective. Thursday night we had to drive to Memorial City to pick up an order, so while we were out there, we stopped at Ikea and picked up a Tarva chest of drawers, along with some cachepots.

B assembled it Saturday (it took all afternoon, though he did take many breaks; he said it was the most complicated and arduous Ikea assembly he's ever seen. Behold, my new art/craft storage and orchid grow space! To the right is my desk and to the left, out of frame, are some shelves with orchid and craft supplies on them.

Five drawers are actually filled with yarn right now. Once I use that yarn up, though, my plan is to keep only a very small stash. Also I think I am going to sell the rest of the Dresden blue Plymouth encore, I don't actually like the color and it takes up a lot of space.

As you can see in the pic, it is unfinished, and it's going to stay that way for right now. I don't have space in my life right now to paint it, but I expect I will do so eventually. Or maybe I will stain it with a white pine stain, or a walnut stain- I like white but I do love the way the wood looks. The smell of the pine wood is very nice, bonus! I'm going to put a plastic shelf liner on top but for now it's just some puppy pads, to protect the wood from water spills and spray. The Tarva is very shallow, only about 16" deep, which I really like. It doesn't take up a whole lot of space in the room, you know? The only thing I don't like is the drawers, they are kind of cheap and so they do not pull out all the way. I can live with that though.

Back when I was planning the reno on the kitchen at R's house (reno that never happened)  I thought about using Tarvas to replace all of the kitchen cabinets. It would be more like the original kitchen of the house; when the house was built in the 30s, kitchen counters weren't as deep as they are today. The hreght is right, and I love the "freestanding kitchen" look, and I prefer lower drawers to lower cabinets. If I ever have to redo a similar kitchen I actually might use Tarvas for it.

Tonight as each drawer was assembled, I took them into the third room and moved yarn from the armoire into the drawers. Tomorrow or Monday I will unpack my fabric stash and move it into the armoire. Eventually the armoire will be my sewing room and doing this now will get a big box unpacked and out of the room.

As you can also see, it sits in front of the east window and is a nice place to grow orchids! I even have room for more, heh. If I run out of space, I will hang a tree branch from the ceiling and use that to hang orchids on. But for right now it's great! The next immediate steps are to add some heat-reflectng sheers.
