B made this custom drawer divider so I can organize my eye palettes the way I want. I thought I would be able to put other makeup in there too, but the palettes take up more space than I imagined.

My dressing table is an antique or nearly antique, and the drawers have a curved front, so normal drawer dividers slide all around and waste some space. This custom divider is perfect! What a thoughtful, loving gift. B knows that I love to see things cleanly organized. I really do, just looking at these palettes all organized makes me feel calm. So this was super-nice of him.

I have an absolute ton of eye palettes now, plus a place to play with them, so I've been wearing shadow almost every day and I love it. I think going forward I am going to try a  "one palette per week" challenge.

We've been making strides in organization this month, which I like. Right now my efforts are focusing on the studio, because I need it to be maximally organized in order to be effective. Thursday night we had to drive to Memorial City to pick up an order, so while we were out there, we stopped at Ikea and picked up a Tarva chest of drawers, along with some cachepots.

B assembled it Saturday (it took all afternoon, though he did take many breaks; he said it was the most complicated and arduous Ikea assembly he's ever seen. Behold, my new art/craft storage and orchid grow space! To the right is my desk and to the left, out of frame, are some shelves with orchid and craft supplies on them.

So, I posted the other day about wanting something similar to a clothing rack for my plants. Well, someone else wanted the same thing, so they made it already and it's for sale on Amazon! It's also for sale at Gardener's Supply, but they want $120 and Amazon wants $48, so I am buying mine from Amazon (I think Gardener's Supply is usually overpriced, especially for plant stands and grow light frames.)

I ordered it today but it's out of stock, and supposedly won't be here until middle of next week. I am hoping it gets restocked before then so I can have it in my hot little hands. For now I am going to put it in the living room, but once my window shelves are built and the fence is back up, I will move it into another room, probably my studio as I will be spending a lot of time in there.

Unlike the clothes rack I was looking at before, the height between shelves on this is 18". (The other one was ~12") That's actually roomy enough to have some orchids on the bottom shelf. I will probably put the Leafy light down there, along with some minis. Because of the shape of it, I can clamp the Annaite light onto the top or sidebar, and the Ikea light will be clamped onto the top bar. I have a folding, adjustable metal shelf that I can put in the rear area of the top shelf, so I can have two tiers of plants there. There's only about 26" between the top shelf and the top bar, so not a lot of space to add hanging plants, but I don't have any of those right now anyway.

So I will put Onc-alliance orchids on the top tier, then larger phals on the second tier, and I can put phals on the bottom shelf, and behind them extra pots and a small fan on that bottom shelf, pointed upward to keep air moving around the orchids. I am not crazy about the bamboo finish, but it's only temporary and I can always spray paint it later. Of course I will also keep orchids on the china cabinet. And I can also use this stand out on the patio in the future; I think it has a lot of possibilities.

I'm glad to have found this; I really hate for my orchids to look crowded and untidy. When you have several plants in a group, they can look great, but when you have several plants crowded together, it's hard to appreciate any of them, because you can't see where one ends and the other begins.

We need shelves in the living room. Our plan has been to build a bult-in shelving unit like this one, which is amazing and perfect. (although I would really like to know how it is attached to the wall, I am starting to suspect it's a death trap.) The thing is, we've been living here for more than a year now, and the lack of shelving is a serious cramp. I am unable to unpack a lot of stuff because we have nowhere to put it- I really need to get through all these boxes but it's hard to be motivated when I would just have to pack whatever I keep back up.

I am really, really not the kind of person who says "Let's buy something that works for now and then get the better shelving later." But at this point, I am leaning toward doing just that. It will annoy me, though: one of the reasons we wanted to do custom shelves was that our house is quite small and a shelf with 12"-14" depth is a waste of space for us. Books aren't that deep. And it's very difficult to purchase shelves that aren't that deep! Plus I really, really don't want anything that will make the room feel closed and smaller. And I hate buying anything "for now", but this may be a time when it's necessary.

This post isn't really a purse-dump. I just think the phrase "dump your purse" is funny and weird.

I started using a planner this year and I like it. I don't think I want to try switching to a different planner right now, I like the one I have and don't want to spend the time looking for a better one. The only thing I really strongly dislike about it is that it's large (7x10) and I can't carry it in my purse. Not only because of the dimensions, but because it's thick and heavy. I think I am going to buy a pdf version and try printing/binding it in quarters, that would work. In fact now I think I am going to get a disk system, take the whole thing to a print shop, and see what they can do for me. If they can make it the right size and make the sides line up that would work very well.

Anyway, this got me thinking about what I carry in my purse- can I carry less of anything? I didn't used to carry a purse. I had a laptop bag that I carried to classes, (back when I was taking lots of core academics I had a rolling back pack) and I had a wallet that I carried otherwise. In my teens and 20s I carried small purses or small backpacks, enough for a book and a wallet, lip balm, and whatever I needed to take to work. (Although I was often homeless, I usually had a place to store my things and a place to shower, so I didn't need to carry everything with me.) I always hated large purses. When I started to crochet seriously, in 2015, I started carrying a purse (and even bought myself one; ostensibly it was a "gift" from my ex but I ended up putting it on my CC, with him saying he would pay me back for it hah which never happened, of course.) And I have found that having a purse is pretty handy, actually. But I don't want to carry a huge one.

So here is what I usually carry in the purse that I carry around with myself when I go to appointments and etc.

What's in my purse? )
