BUNDOR likes it when I sing. Earlier this evening, I was listening to the Gin Blossoms. A few minutes ago I was singing "FOund OUt About You" and I noticed that he was listening closely. So I started siging to him:

In fact it's all I think about
I honk your name hop past your house
your bondmate's over I watched your lights go out.

I am amused and he was very pleased

This is distraction journaling.

Bad: I may be mildly allergic to BUNDOR or his hay. Saturday I held him for awhile, and gave him kisses. I was wearing a scoop-neck shirt and when I put him down, my upper chest was all bright red where he had been touching it, and my face was all red where i had kissed him. We are hoping it's the hay, I am going to stop kissing him and stop letting him touch my upper chest (which is my most sensitive area in terms of skin reactions.)

Good: I can't remember if I posted about this, but Opal's thyroid meds went too far in the other direction and she was ONLY sleeping and eating. A few weeks ago we reduced her meds by half and she seems much happier, she is affectionate and even playful. she is shedding SO MUCH though. She will go back in a few weeks to check her levels.

Saturday, Bundor did what may be the cutest thing yet.

Mid-afternoon, he was awake and playful so B let him out to run around the house (he usually gets to come out in the late evening, so this was unusual.)

He had a few hours of running around and having fun, then in the late afternoon he got tired and decided to go have a nap. So he went into his pen and tried to close the gate after him. How freaking cute is that? B saw him do it, it was just adorable! He was inside the pen and tugging on the gate. Maybe he feels safe with the gate closed, or maybe he just knows that at bedtime we close the gate. Either way it was delightful.

On Wednesday night I discovered that Bundor had been peeing inappropriately in one corner of his pen, and it had run underneath the sheet vinyl. Nightmare. So yesterday we broke the pen apart, pulled up the sheet vinyl, cleaned up the pee, disinfected, let it dry, etc. Then I bent and cut the sheet vinyl so it now turns up at the walls, preventing pee from getting under it. THEN we put it all back together. What a PITA. At least now if he pees it won't run underneath, but I am really not liking the inappropriate pee!

He was so good at the litter box and lately he's been pooping near the front door, and on Wednesday he peed on my purse where it was on the floor in the entry. Not cool, rabbit! Realistically, there's only so much labor I am able to do, and we cannot keep him if he's going to be labor-intensive.

While we were working on his pen, we set up a temporary pen in my room. He seemed fine and happy in it, until we left the room to eat, at which point he promptly escaped to come find us. Then later on I made a temp wall to keep him in the kitchen while I was rebuilding. He was happy in there until we left to go rebuild, and a few minutes later he came hopping into my room to see what we were doing. He did that thing where he got all in our faces and examined what we were doing with our hands, hopped in circles around us, etc. He just wants to be with us! Isn't that cute?

Every time I sit down to journal it's late, I am tired, and so much has happened that it's overwhelming so I don't write. Then all the stuff weighs on my mind.

Serena has accepted Bundor as part of the family. The other night B saw her lick him on the head! But that also means he's now a part of her feline psychodrama. on NYE he got in her space and she decided to discipline him the way she would a kitten: she smacked him with her paw and then stood on his neck. this was terrifying (for us, not him) because rabbit necks are much more fragile than kitten necks.

He grows and learns so fast!

Last weekend Bundor learned to recognize when I am filling his manger. He gets ridiculously excited and bounces all around when I pick up the manger or the hay bag.

This week he has FINALLY started learning about giving the cats personal space. He used to get so excited whenever he saw them, that he would run up to them really fast. If they walked away, he would follow them. To the cats, especially Opal, this is scary. So we started holding him back or putting a hand or foot between him and them. This week he has learned to approach them slowly and NOT follow when they walk away. Several times this week he and Serena have sniffed faces and then either stood quietly or walked in opposite directions. That's really good!

I don't know if I mentioned already, but we are keeping Bundor the Bunbarian. Who, we have confirmed, is a boy.

Rabbits grow so fast! Like every time I feel like I have time to sit down and update, SO MUCH more has happened.

Bundor is a Lionhead mix, and he's starting to get his adult fur. When he was a baby, he was extremely fluffy all over, plus he had a little wispy mane on top of his head. Now his mane is expanding, he's growing some long mutton chops and the mane has started crawling down his chest, whereas the center of his face is a bit shorter. He has also started growing a "skirt" which is what they call the wool that grows long on a Lionhead's flanks. His skirt is hilarious right now, it's coming in in tufts, but they get bigger every day. I first noticed he was starting to molt about 3 weeks ago; it seemed that some of the hair on his lower flanks was suddenly shorter, making it look patchy. What was really happening was that the skirt tufts were just starting to grow out.
