Moss: so far, so good. Over the last 10 days or so I have really seen positive effects.
First positive: hydration. The orchids in moss are very well-hydrated. Some of them had a few dehydrated leaves before, especially 6 and 19. those are both visibly more hydrated. This week both of those orchids had a small surge of root growth, too. 6, 19, and a few of the other phals have a sheen to their leaves that was missing before, and that's the sheen of hydration.
Second positive: root growth. Several phals are getting some root growth, especially 6 and 19.
Negatives: I water my orchids with a squeeze bottle. Even though it's a tiny stream, and I do it gently, it's still strong enough to slightly compact the moss in some cases. I will be watching that to see if I need to do anything.
Another negative: the moss is lightweight and the larger orchids are a little wobbly. Today I tied one up because it was very top-heavy and listing more and more. I clipped a binder clip to the edge of the pot and used some yarn to tie the orchid in a more upright position.
The one phal in seramis only is also doing well- some new root growth and staying hydrated. It's hard to know when to water the seramis phal, I am being cautious but it's hard! So I am hoping I haven't over-watered it. It doesn't have many visible roots.
14 is potted in seramis/LECA and seems to be in some repot shock. Although it is better-hydrated than it was in Growstones, that is ALL that's happening with that phal. Interestingly, the bottom of that pot dries long before the top. It is on the heat pad, but I still didn't expect that, because the moss orchids on the heat pad are not doing the same.
