TIL that when I am wearing gloves and trying hard to twist something open, the gloves will shift and put pressure on the tips of my fingernails, bending my nails and making my polish lift, very painfully. This is annoying because i was 2 weeks into this manicure and it was looking great, no lifting, and I thought I could stretch it to the weekend or even up to 3 weeks. But now I have two fingers lifted on one hand and one on another. So I will probably soak off and redo my nails on Wednesday. I could soak off just the damaged nails and do something with those, but I don't think the rest of the mani will last past the weekend, so I might as well just get it all done now.

I learned this by doing yard work and pond maintenance. Saturday the yard grading was finished (we hired a new guy to finish it and build the fence.) I asked the guy if, if I purchased some Turface, he would spread it around the yard, and he said yes. So B bought I think 8 bags (we decided to use half as much as the recommended amount, because we aren't a sports field) and the crew spread that all around the yard and then put a thin layer of new, rich top soil over it to add height in some places. He also said it wasn't supposed to rain again all week, which turned out to not be true. It rained on Sunday and on Monday, and it was supposed to storm hard Monday night.

I have some concerns about the grading, tbh: there's a high point in the center of the yard, the house is not the highest point. The grading has a six month warranty, so the next heavy rain will tell us if we need to have it adjusted or not. March and April are usually pretty rainy, so we should find out soon.

Monday afternoon I worked in the yard to get ready for rain. I moved potted plants back into the yard, from the patio, and also did some cleanup. Tuesday afternoon I worked on the pond- I  cleaned a lot of stuff out, including throwing away the old biofilter medium. I am going to replace it with LECA. I did some alterations to the filter stand, I want it to be shorter so the filter isn't so far above the water. Less splashy and maybe less noisy. We moved the pond so it is near the patio and visible from the living room, so it will be easier to monitor and also so the cats can watch birds bathe in the filter. Disassembling the filter was when I learned this new way to break my nails :/

So right now the filter is running, without medium. I just wanted to get it going to aerate the water and for the pre-filter to filter out some sludge. Wednesday I will get some LECA. I hope that by Thursday Al can go back outside, and that on the weekend we can start on Rex's pen. B leaves for a business trip on Monday and will be gone for more than a week, so we really need to get done on the weekend if possible. I am afraid we won't, tbh- it's a LOT of work. Poor Rex, he's so miserable being inside. So is Al, for that matter, but Rex seems downright depressed.

Wednesday I plan to sow clover seeds in the yard, just to get something growing. Clover isn't native but it's a good ground cover. I am going to space out clumps of henbit and violet wood sorrel all around the yard as well, as well as some clumps of a kind of grass that was already out there. I also have some garlic chives that need to be planted somewhere, but I don't yet know where to put them. I want also to sow some native grasses, and we plan to put some of my big plants into the ground.
